Are we missing something?

I was very encouraged this morning by this article written by Kristen Welch.  Take a few moments to read it - I think she is spot on about our culture and how difficult it is to raise a child that is not totally entitled and self-focused (and how we, as parents, foster that!).  She very aptly titles her article "I think we may be missing something."  I think she's right.

Stuart and I talk often about how to raise James so that he sees the world through a lens that is Christ- and others-focused, not self-focused.  We have lots of tangible ideas about how to try to facilitate this, but when it comes down to it, we know that this worldview is really going to reside in James' heart.  And only Jesus changes hearts.  We can help by trying to not be entirely "child-focused," by facilitating his actions and participation in serving opportunities, but we can't make his heart long for these things.  So, we pray for James to know Jesus and that his tiny heart will be transformed to look more and more like that of Christ.
