Snow day

Last night before I put James down, it had started to snow a bit.  Just a few minutes after the first flakes fell, our deck looked like this.  We were excited to wake up and have a snow day this morning!

We woke up and enjoyed breakfast: the snow baby chose O's and banana (not cozy at all...) and mama and dad had oatmeal.  (Photos below for the foodies.)

We got dressed and ready to go play outside!

At first, James was just confused about why we were so excited to sit him outside and watch him.  Then he noticed the snow and found it a little interesting.  He mostly just thought it was cold in the end.

James impressed us by standing unsupported for several seconds (10 or 15?), which he has never done before!  We think it may have had something to do with how stiff he was in all of his layers...  But, proud and impressed with our boy, nonetheless.

James didn't last long outside - or maybe it was Stuart... he also doesn't like to be cold ;)  Either way, after snow play, we hung out in front of the fire before both boys went down for their naps (James because he's a little babe, and Stuart because he had worked all night!).

Which means that I got to enjoy this on my own for a bit in the peace and quiet of this snowy morning!  Thankful.

James lately

James spends most of his days playing playing playing!  All I have to say is "Want to play with toys?" and the boy gets excited.  He is often happy to play by himself, even if I am in another room, but sometimes he wants me to be his playmate.  I'm happy to oblige!

It has been very cold these last few weeks!  I find myself mostly dressing James in lots of layers to go outside (onesie, extra shirt, fleece pullover or sweater, vest with hood and his winter hat).  He doesn't have a warm winter coat, but it's just as well - layers seem more versatile, and it's how I dress myself usually, so it works best for us!

We received this miniature Winnie the Pooh in the mail from Nana a week or so ago, and James loves him.  Ever since the very early weeks, I have read the Pooh chapter books by A.A. Milne to James, and he generally is very happy to sit and listen, even with very few pictures.  We don't want to have a lot of "characters" around our house - TV, movie or otherwise - but Stuart and I both grew up adoring Pooh, and it's good literature, so we have a few stuffed Pooh items (mini Pooh, and a Tigger that James also loves from his P\PAW).

The following pictures display the large amount of drool (I have found puddles on the floor!) that goes along with our most frequent activity this past week: teething!  He's got a bunch of new teeth coming in on top and bottom, left and right sides.  Our days have been Tylenol-, smoothie- and snuggle-infused.

2014 Hymn Sing & Pie Night

Last Saturday, our church held its first annual Hymn Sing & Pie Night.  It was so fabulous - the best event that I have been a part of planning so far at CCC!  We held a potluck - dinner & dessert - with the only requirement of pie crust to be incorporated into each dish.  We then had a contest and voted on best savory & sweet pies.  After breaking bread (pie crust) together, we all sang hymns.  Can't think of a better evening (unless Stuart could have been there... He was on call, therefore absent from the party).

Already a tired boy...
